Here are some frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Do you use AI in your projects?

1. No. Generative AI is extremely inconsistent in this space and would be a waste of time. Here at Wonderr Studio we pride ourselves on emotional driven quality and believe animations, character designs and everything in between should be produced by emotion driven creators to provide the best quality.  Plus, we value human-driven art.
2. We do sometimes use Ai for work flow management and use Chat Gpt for ideation references.
3. You are more than welcome to share Ai references as a guidance if you have something that gives you an idea of what you want. Ai can be unrealistic, therefore we can't guarantee to create everything Ai makes.

Who has ownership rights and usage of the work produced?

Any design work made on a commission bases will transfer complete ownership of the work from designer to customer once the work has been handed over and full payment for the project has been made. Wonderr Studio™ does have the right to refuse handing over any work if not paid what is owed. Learn more about ownerships from AINNO, the AI assistant we created for Steyn IP Attorneys.

Can I Copyright or Register Intellectual Property for the things you'll create for us?

Short answer, yes. You will be able to legally protect the assets we've created, whether an animation, character or mascot. However we suggest you contact an IP lawyer such as Steyn IP to find out more about the legalities of this space.  Learn more about IP

How much does 2D animation cost per minute?

2D animation typically costs anywhere from R30 000.00/ $1900.00 - R150,000.00/ $9200.00+ per finished minute, depending on style complexity, level of detail, and how much movement is happening on screen. Simpler, limited-animation styles (fewer drawn frames, more reused assets) sit at the lower end, while fully hand-drawn, high-frame-rate work sits higher.
For fundraising-stage projects like pitch trailers or Kickstarter videos, most studios recommend starting with a shorter 30–90 second piece rather than a full minute-by-minute breakdown, since it keeps cost manageable while still giving investors or backers what they need to say yes.

What's the difference between 2D and 2.5D animation?

2D animation is flat — characters and backgrounds exist on a single visual plane, drawn or rigged to move within that space. 2.5D animation adds a sense of depth by layering flat 2D elements at different distances from the camera, allowing for parallax movement, subtle camera pans, and a more dynamic, dimensional feel — without the cost or complexity of full 3D. Many game trailers and cinematic pitch pieces use 2.5D specifically because it gives a more "alive," cinematic quality while staying closer to 2D budgets and timelines.

How does an animation studio pipeline work?

Most animation pipelines move through a few core stages: concept and script development, storyboarding (mapping out shots and pacing), design (characters, environments, style), animatic (a rough timed version of the whole piece), full animation, and finally sound design and color/final polish. Smaller studios often run these stages more fluidly and collaboratively than large ones, with tighter feedback loops between the client and the animation team — which usually means faster turnaround and more room for creative input along the way.
