STEYN IP: Copyright & IP Attorney Mascot Design Project

Project Overview

Steyn IP, a law firm specializing in Intellectual Property (IP) and Copyright law, sought to enhance its brand identity through character design. As their firm focuses on protecting intellectual property for creatives —such as artists, animators, and musicians and businesses alike—they wanted a more engaging and personalized way to connect with their target audience.

Objective

The initial goal was to develop two unique characters that would help make the firm's branding more approachable and relatable to creative professionals:

1. A Lawyer Mascot – Representing the firm’s expertise in IP law.
2. A Robot Mascot – Designed to serve as a sidekick figure, bringing a playful and dynamic element to the brand.

Design Process

• Lawyer Character: Inspired by the Ace Attorney series and cyberpunk aesthetics, this humanoid character embodies professionalism with a futuristic edge.
• Robot Character: Designed as a companion figure, similar to Pokémon sidekicks. The concept drew significant inspiration from EVE in WALL-E, blending sleek, modern, and friendly design elements.

Outcome

However at a later stage, most of my clients connections liked the robot, later named AINNO. And so she became the primary mascot and the humanoid lawyer character became the "side kick" that would only appear at certain times.

My client got inspired during this entire process, and later on developed an AI chat bot that became the mascot, AINNO. You can ask AINNO about anything regarding IP & Copyright and she'll provide some information. Have a crack and ask her HERE.

What was provided during the project?

Steyn Ip received the following content to help them build that personal presence by utilizing their mascot.

1. Mascot Illustration
2. Character Sheets of the front, back, side view (Can later be used to create an animation)
3. Animatic (Short 9s animation)
4. Christmas Illustration for December festivities

The final character designs successfully aligned with Steyn IP’s branding objectives, creating a more engaging and memorable presence for their firm.
