South African anime is entering a new era. At Wonderr Studio, we are raising funds to produce the first South African anime movie, marking a major step forward for anime production in Mzansi. As anime continues to grow into a multi-billion-dollar global industry, South Africa remains an untapped creative force. This project aims to change that—by creating an original anime film rooted in South African storytelling, culture, and emotion.
Anime has exploded over recent years. What was once a niche medium has grown into a global cultural force—one that millions of people love, connect with, and find meaning in.
Our mission is simple—but bold.
At Wonderr Studio, we aim to build South Africa’s first official anime studio, producing anime series and films created by South African storytellers, rooted in our culture, emotions, and lived experiences.
This isn’t about copying Japan.
It’s about telling Mzansi stories through the anime medium, with a distinct South African flair that the world has never seen before.
Because anime is one of the fastest-growing entertainment industries in the world.
Yet despite South Africa’s rich creative talent, we don’t have a studio dedicated to anime at scale—one that develops long-form, story-driven 2D animation for global audiences.
BUT... we just REALLY REALLY love anime!! And we want to be part of creating worlds people connect with on such a deep level, just like how we connect with these amazing shows.
Our long-term vision goes beyond a single movie.
We want Wonderr Studio to grow into a creative hub for South African 2D animation talent, where artists can work on international-quality productions without leaving the country.
This is about building an industry—not just content.
This project is bigger than Wonderr Studio.
By creating anime locally, we’re investing directly into South Africa’s creative economy. We’re opening doors for 2D animation to flourish here—just as it already does in Japan, the US, and Europe.
We want to prove that South African stories, told through anime, can move audiences worldwide, while creating real jobs and real opportunities at home.
In short, we’re not just building shows.
We’re building a future for South African animation.
